Muttropolis - A utopia for pets and their parents

I just moved to the area and I want to bring Winston out and about with me to parks and restaurants in La Jolla and North County...anyone have suggestions?

Hi Dubya

As a long time La Jolla and North County resident, we've tried many different restaurants and here are the top dog friendly restaurant pics for Schmoo and I:

In La Jolla:
1) Rimel's Rotisserie - lunch or dinner - lots of locals, excellent food and great dog-friendly patio for outdoor dining.
2) The Mission Coffee Cup on Wall Street - breakfast or lunch
3) Come On In - lunch or dinner - great food & right next door to Rimel's

Dog Friendly Restaurants in Del Mar or Solana Beach:
1) Beach Grass Cafe - great food and nice outdoor patio- Solana Beach
2) Pacific Coast Grill - great food and nice outdoor patio with trellis- Solana Beach
3) Wild Note Cafe - outdoor patio, in the Cedros Design District in Solana Beach
4) Pacifica Breeze Cafe - located atop the Del Mar Plaza - nice ocean view & creative menu
5) Board and Brew - sandwiches and deli - local hangout - dog friendly patio - Del Mar

Enjoy and let me know if there's any that I've left off the list!

Also in La Jolla, "My Place" the French restaurant next to Muttropolis is super dog friendly and has great food.

La Jolla is a nice place to have Winston with you. If there are no concerts, the park by the Cove is really nice to have a picnic. La Jolla seems to have a lot of dogs around so most places are dog friendly.

Enjoy SD.

A great dog park in N County is located across the street from the new Encinitas Library on "D" street in Encinitas. Just take Encinitas Blvd exit off 5 freeway and head west. Make a left on Vulcan and another left on "D" street. Head up the hill, park is on the left.

Nice park with kids playground. Leashed hours 24/7, off-leash is M, W, F 6am - 7:30am and again from 4pm - 6pm year round. If its quite off leash is tolerated at other hours.

Hi Dubya, I like to go to the small dog park--north of Garnet, on MT. Soldedad . Depending on what area of LJ you live--you may need take the detour---as the road is still partially closed. It is a great park with lots of friendly, nice, little dogs like us. Roxie

Karl Strauss Brewery (and EXCELLENT FOOD), in La Jolla, also allows dogs on the patio.

La Jolla is very dog friendly. Stores have water bowls out. So cool.

dog beach opens on the 13th in Del Mar and it is the best place around to meet dog lovers. The patio at the Pacific Coast Grill in Solana Beach is also a fine place to meet people with your pup. Steve

Hi Dubya and Winston,

Welcome to North County!
There are so many great places in this dog-loving area to take your dog.

Doyle Dog Park in La Jolla is one of my favorites because they have separate small and large dog enclosures. Of course, there are caveats about frequenting any dog park because you never know if the other dogs will be friendly, but for those who want to let their dogs "rip", a great dog park or Del Mar or Coronado dog beaches can't be beat.

I have a published article on my website, and a featured discussion on the Forum on the Muttropolis website that discusses some great places to take Winston on trails around Carmel Valley and many stores (Home Depot, Lowe's, Rite-Aid, if he's small enough to fit in the baby seat on a blanket, and of course Saks etc) as well as outdoor seating restaurants where he will be welcome. Please post any great discoveries you make on the Forum if you get a chance to share.

In Del Mar, the Stratford Cafe is one of my fav doggie hang-outs.

He looks like a darling puppy... so the more people and doggie socialization he can get at this stage, the more lovable he will be as an adolescent and adult.
