Annyone had a dog with Wobbler's Disease?

I have a friend whose dog has this and she wants to know anyone whose had experience with this. Is it painful? Is there a best course of treatment? Is there any hope for recovery or maintaining current mobility? When do you determine if quality of life is not enough to keep the dog alive? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
