My little hand-me-down female Lhasa, Charlie, died at the ripe of old age of 18, and I was heartbroken. After a couple of months of grieving, I was looking on line for another Lhasa Apso, albeit a younger dog. I stumbled across a rescue site called Wee Rescue. The name of the rescue group was so cute, that I looked at the dogs they had up for adoption. I found one that looked just like Charlie, but he was a 2 year old male they'd named Shelby. I found where they were having a "meet and greet" at a local pet store and I went with every intention of bringing home a little boy Lhasa. It wasn't that easy. I was encouraged to look at ALL the other dogs, who were darling, but my heart was set on "Shelby". After an interview, home study, back ground check, hefty adoption fee, and having to wrestle him away from his foster family, I brought "Shelby" home. Shelby? Really? I promptly changed his name to ROCKY. A much more appropriate name for my strong, happy boy dog who would live with me in Round Rock, TX. He is such a joy. I get a happy dances every day. We wrestle and play and dance in the living room together. He smiles and he is very, very loved. The best part is, he loves me back. I don't know who was actually rescued - Rocky or me.

Marley's Pop Comment by Marley's Pop on April 27, 2009 at 12:28pm
We adopted our dog Marley through Helen Woodward in San Diego, and we can't say enough about how great the experience has been. Marley was just about a year old when we brought her home but she was a total puppy at first with tons of energy! In the past 9 months she's really settled into her new life with the family and we can't imagine life without her. We looked at dogs from breeders and friends who had puppies, but in the end we felt so much better getting our dog from the shelter and knowing that she was healthy and had a good temperament. Adopt a dog or cat, you won't regret it!
Yeti and Wilson Comment by Yeti and Wilson on April 23, 2009 at 11:28am
Yeti and Wilson are Jackson Hole shelter puppies. We adopted Wilson first after his mother abandoned him and his brother and sister in a rundown apartment building. Yeti's mother and her 7 pups were found in a barn. They are true mystery mutts! The puppies all looked different. Luckily all of the pups and their brave mama were adopted into loving homes.
While they are true mountain dogs, they are loving their new home at the beach. Sand looks like snow some days, but rolling around in it feels just as good!!!
Gypsy and her pet human Sally Comment by Gypsy and her pet human Sally on April 23, 2009 at 11:16am
Gypsy was smuggled across the border from Mexico by some American campers who after crossing went straight to Pacific Beach with family and pup. I was there with my twins and we met Gypsy. She needed a home, and we needed a dog. The smugglers were happy to find her a great home in Fallbrook on 12 acres. She is an amazing dog who guards our ranch, chases away preditors, and never harms our chickens, chases horses or our cat. I highly support adoptions!

I adopted Buddy from Animal Avengers 3 1/2 years ago. Vito I adopted from Much Love after they saved him from death row at the South LA Shelter. Tiny Tim I rescued from the South LA Shelter as a pup after he was hit by a car and dumped there. He's now happy and healthy and you would never know of all he went through. My latest, is little Mouse from the Bill Foundation. She was pulled from Pasadena Humane Society very skinny and sick. I fostered her and after about a week knew that she had found her home. Now she is healthy and a total maniac:)

I am thankful for my sister Lulu Schmoo, who was rescued from Baja Animal Rescue thru Muttropolis. She was a mangy thing, and frankly I didn't want any thing to do with her initially, but now I don't know what I'd do without her. Here we are at the recent San Diego Humane Society Fur Ball! Good times.

Heather, Sescie, Ceelo & Kaya Comment by Heather, Sescie, Ceelo & Kaya on July 10, 2008 at 12:49pm
I adopted a special needs Kaya on May 17, 2008! She is a teeny tiny chihuahua estimated to be 5 years old. In her previous life she had a "tail wrenching" episode which caused hind area nerve damage. Although she can walk fine, she doesn't have the normal sensations to go potty. So she wears doggie panties in the house. She is just a little love and enjoys lounging in a sunny spot in the house.
Dog Grandma Comment by Dog Grandma on June 27, 2008 at 9:25pm
You could say our 2 dogs were adopted twice. Our daughter got Wyatt, the GSP, about 5 years ago from a GSP rescue group, and one of our sons got Belle, the Lab mix, about 5 years ago from an animal shelter. In the past year, both of their circumstances changed so that they could no longer have their dogs with them, and (voila!) my husband and I became the proud owners of our 2 grand dogs. We love them both dearly, and are they ever spoiled!
Colleen Rush Comment by Colleen Rush on June 25, 2008 at 4:08pm
We rescued Bailey from the shelter in Orange and I can't believe what joy and love she has brought to our lives. She was only a baby when we saw her at the pound, we knew she was the one. We had to leave her so she could be spayed but we picked her up 2 days later and she has been healthy and happy since then. I'm not sure what her life was like for the first 3 months but I can assure you that the rest of her life she will be spoiled and well taken care of. She has become a part of our family in the little bit of time that we have had her. She is smart and we had her potty trained in 1.5 weeks, she sits on command and is learning to shake right now. I could go on and on but I should stop for now.
