he is actually potty trained. I thought it would be more difficult too but he is very bright. We crate trianed him which really helped him learn how to hold it. Then we are just very routine with him. He goes out at the same time every morning, then stays in his crate for a while during hte day, as soon as I get home I take him out. I learned that to avoid an accident when I get home, I dont greet him, I take him out and I stand in the same spot every time and I just tell him "Go Potty" I dont make eye contact with him. Then once he has gone I give him a big greeting and lots of love. Believe me it will be harder on you to not give in right away when you see him than for him to wait. He also knows the difference between "go potty" and "go poops". He is really good at doing it when told. He has not had an accident in a long time. Occasionally he will let out a little wee wee if he is meeting someone new but to avoid that, I just tell people to not talk to him until he comes up to them. That way he is not overwhelmed. Just consistancy consistancy! Hope this helped!
