Dear HEF,
The FURminator is awesome. It differs from a regular undercoat rake because the FURminator's unique stainless steel edge quickly and easily grabs loose and dead undercoat hair and removes it without damaging the topcoat, better than any comb, brush or rake. It grabs with teeth, vs. the rake that is designed with triangles which doesn't bring out the loose undercoat.
